Daniel J. Shannon served as a judge in Colorado for twenty-eight years at various jurisdictional levels ranging from Justice of the Peace to the Colorado District Court. For the last twenty years of his judicial career, Shannon was a district judge in the First Judicial District, one of Colorado’s most populous districts, headquartered in Golden. For eighteen of those years he also served as the Chief Judge of that district displaying notable administrative and organizational skills in overseeing the operations of the judicial district. Shannon received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Regis College in Denver in 1951 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law in 1954.

He has taught trial advocacy at the University of Colorado School of Law and has been a member and chairman of the Colorado Judicial Qualifications Commission for a number of years. Shannon is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and a member and past President of the First Judicial District Bar Association. He is also a past President of both the Colorado County Judges’ Association (1964-65) and the Colorado District Judges’ Association (1978). He has served as a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure.
