Prior to joining the Judicial Arbiter Group, Inc. in January of 2009, Steven T. Pelican served twenty-three years on Colorado’s 4th Judicial District Court in Colorado Springs. Since his appointment
to the bench he was highly ranked in every Bar Association Poll and Colorado Judicial Performance Review in that district. In 2002 Pelican successfully completed the Harvard Law School Programs
of Instruction in Mediation and Negotiation, I and II. He also is a graduate of both the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA) and the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.

Steve received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1967 and attended the University of Colorado School of Law from 1967 through 1971 at which time he received his Juris Doctor. After graduating from law school, he served for one year
as a law clerk for former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Robert B. Lee.
His professional career included
a three year stint with the Colorado Springs District Attorney as a Deputy DA from 1972-1975 followed by eleven years of experience in private practice the last eight years spent as a partner in the firm of Kirkman, Henley
and Pelican. He specialized in general commercial and criminal litigation. Pelican was appointed to
the Colorado District Court Bench in 1986.

Steve Pelican has been active
his entire life in both professional
and civic and family matters. Professionally he has served on numerous bar association and judicial committees including
the Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors, the Bar’s Committee on Professionalism, the Journalism Committee and
the local Bench/Bar Conciliation Committee. He also served on
the University of Colorado Law School Alumni Board from 1992 until 1995. In 2008, Steve received University of Colorado Law School’s Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievment in the Judiciary.
Steve and Debi Pelican have spent a lifetime together working to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. They helped found the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in 1983 and Steve served as its President from 1993 through 2009.
