Former Indiana Superior Court Judge Susan L. Macey joined the professional staff of arbiters at Judicial Arbiter Group, Inc. (JAG) in April 2008. As a Superior Court Judge (a court of general jurisdiction) in the Marion County (Indianapolis) Superior Court, Macey presided over an average of 1400 cases per year. She was also active in developing and implementing many policies and court rules that were widely adopted in Marion County.

After serving eight years in that judicial capacity, Macey practiced as a mediator and arbitrator in the firm of Van Winkle Baten Rimstidt also in Indianapolis. In addition to serving as legal counsel to the Indiana Senate and the City of Indianapolis her time in private practice included a stint with the Indianapolis based firm of Barnes & Thornburg, LLP where she specialized in employment and labor law.

In March of 2005, Susan Macey was appointed by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels as that state’s Utility Consumer Counselor where she served until her affiliation with JAG. She managed a staff of nearly fifty attorneys, technical experts, external affairs specialists and support personnel who represent Indiana’s utility consumers in state and federal regulatory proceedings.

In addition to previous experience in resolving tort, employment, labor and general commercial litigation, as the Utility Consumer Counselor she has additionally developed an interest and expertise in natural resources, public policy, environmental issues, public utilities and environmental dispute resolution.

Macey served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Indiana University where she teaches Mediation/Negotiation.
An attorney for more than 25 years, Macey is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington and is currently a candidate for an
advanced degree in alternative dispute resolution from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California.
