Virginia Chavez received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and Juris Doctor from the University of Denver. After completing her legal education, Ms. Chavez worked as a staff attorney for the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. She proceeded from that position to employment with the District Attorney’s Office in Boulder, Colorado as a Deputy District Attorney where she served four years. Ms. Chavez then entered private practice as a partner with the firm of Chavez & Garlin. P.C. where she specialized in personal injury law and criminal defense. After four years in private practice Virginia Chavez was appointed to the Boulder County Court where she served until her resignation in 1993 when she began serving as a mediator.

Ms. Chavez has received formal training as a mediator and is experienced in resolving personal injury matters, professional malpractice cases, contract disputes, patent cases, dissolution of partnerships, and construction defects. She has also served on numerous arbitration panels as both the sole arbiter and the neutral arbiter on three-person panels.
Ms. Chavez serves on the board of Trustees of the Boulder Country Bar Association, and served as President in 2003. She also serves as a board member of Boulder County Paramedics and Boulder Emergency Squad. She served on the boards of the Boulder County Mental Health Center, the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association and the University of Denver Law Alumni Council. She was also a member of the Colorado State Judicial Department Personnel Review Board.

She has taught Street Law at Lookout Mountain Juvenile Detention Facility, mock trial facilitation at the Gilliam Center in Denver and assisted in the training of students for Teen Court at Niwot High School. In 1991 she was a presenter for the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association program on alternative dispute resolution. She has served on the Boulder Human Rights Task Force and Boulder’s .15% Sales Tax Review Committee. |
